"And with swiftness He set it upon my heart to do a wonderous work. A ork that would withstand time and never fail. He told me....to follow Him." -R. Christopher
So, hopefully if you have read the previous newsletter the story I am about to tell you will make more since! I was reading over "lost" again and I happen to think about a little story I wrote in Bible study on Wednesday. I want to share it with you. But before I do, I would like to correct the fact that I didn't have anything in the previous issue that deals directly with chronic pain. That is because there is nothing that deals direclty with chronic pain to be applied! We have to realize that we ARE NOT OUR PAIN, but that the PAIN IS PART OF US! Therefore, we have to continually strive to be good to our complete selves. We all know that stress makes the pain worse. Don't rule out spiritual stress. It is just as important as emotional and physical stress. So with that said.. here is the story. Enjoy!
" You know those illustrations of a toy robot running into a wall over and over again? (kinda like the one above!!!) Complete with red eyes adn blinking lights his little robot arms flailing all over the place while he's saying something bad ass like " I am here to destroy you, I am here to destroy you"! As threating as this little toy intends to be. He is all show and wierd voice box and that becomes hillariously evident as he runs into a wall!! With only one skip of his tiny voice box, he bounces back and then 'smack' right back into the wall he goes. His direction unchanged, but still making his harmless threats.
We tend to be just like that toy robot. We go off on our bad ass larger than life tangents on how popular we are and how great we are and how much we have. And just as we are about to unleash our wonderful plan of attack on what ever it is we hope to conquer, control or obtain, "smack" into the wall we run. Empty head first! Now that we are staring at an unmovable wall we look to the selfish intentions that had been riding shotgun for an answer only to find that they have bailed already. Now we look up to a God that we imagine shunning us with a big "I told you so", only to find the opposite. He is holding out those loving arms and bidding us to come to him.
You see God has given us something that modern science will never be able to give to a robot. The Holy spirit! It is out Christian common sense! You see when the robot hits the wall, he dosen't have the Holy Spirit to tell him to stop moving and change course. He just has to wait for someone to turn him around which dosen't happen to quickly because people are too busy laughing at him hitting the wall until he falls on his back....legs and arms still flailing wildly. Dosen't that scenario remind you of some so-called-friends you have or used to have? Well God and His Spirit don't work that way. When we run into the wall, he guides us to stop moving and change course. So don't look at walls as an obsticle. Just think of them as detour signs!"
